UNAIDS: Funding cuts could lead to HIV ‘nightmare’ Michel Sidibe appealed to government and private donors to keep investing in the Global Fund to Fight AIDS,#x Tuberculosis and Malaria, an international financing institution. He said that cuts in donations will decrease the availability of free or subsidized life-saving drugs to African patients. An estimated ۹۴ percent of patients on anti-retroviral treatment in Africa count on external donor funds to provide their medications, Sidibe said. “If we stop now, if we reduce the financing,Fire hose, the people who are on treatment today … we will transform their hope for universal access into a universal nightmare, because they will start dying,” Sidibe told The Associated Press Monday. The Global Fund’s “Results Report”, released Monday, described the substantial advances that have been made in AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria prevention and treatment since the fund’s establishment eight years ago, including the possible elimination of mother-to-child HIV transmission by ۲۰۱۵. “It is also now possible to imagine a world with no more malaria deaths,”#x said Michel D. Kazatchkine,Hydraulic power pack the Global Fund’s executive director. In addition, tuberculosis prevalence in many countries is declining, and the Global Fund believes this could be halved by ۲۰۱۵. However, it cautions that the achievement of these goals is only possible if health programs receive increased investments as planned. The Global Fund will meet in The Hague, Netherlands, on March ۲۴ to examine how it can meet its goals eliminating or reducing instances of the three diseases by ۲۰۱۵. The group will present donor countries with three public health scenarios, based on amounts of funding ranging from $۱۳-۲۰ billion, for the period ۲۰۱۱-۲۰۱۳. In October this year, the Global Fund will ask donors for financial contributions during its conference in New York. This will be the third time since the fund was established in ۲۰۰۲ that donors are being asked to replenish their finances. There is concern that the global economic downturn could negatively impact the funding commitments made by donor countries. “The world’s investments are clearly making a difference,” Sidibe said,Hydraulic power pack #x”but without a fully funded Global Fund, we would be putting the lives of millions of people currently on treatment in jeopardy.” ????????
Few surprises on Bigelow’s big night ‘ The Hurt Locker ’ – ATM Partsand Irishman Richie Baneham –#x were winners in an Oscar night of mostly agreeably dignified speeches and an odd, no more than glossily competent, ceremony WE WERE anticipating a nail-biting tussle between James Cameron’s Avatar and Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker at the ۸۲nd Academy Awards.#x For months, the delicious prospect of the most financially lucrative picture ever taking on a film that barely made back its production budget profoundly agitated the world’s entertainment journalists. The fact that the directors were once married added spice to the dish. ATM PartsA recent kerfuffle that saw a producer of The Hurt Locker banned from the ceremony for badmouthing Avatar by e-mail further heightened the tension. Well, as events transpired on Sunday morning,NCR parts, #xThe Hurt Locker ended up hammering Avatar into the ground like a virtual tent peg. HVP recall poses safety questions But news that millions of kilograms of the ingredient - which is shipped to food manufacturers across North America to add to flavoured snacks and other pre-packaged foods - is now the subject of a massive salmonella recall has some consumers asking tough questions of the food industry. In Canada, domestically produced soup mixes, dips, popcorn seasoning and flavoured chips made the recall list this week, which is expected to balloon into what U.S. authorities warn could become one of the largest food recalls in North America. Additive manufacturers like Basic Food Flavors, Inc., the Nevada-based company at the centre of the HVP recall, start out with vegetable scraps or soy extracts. They are boiled in hydrochloric acid, then neutralized with sodium hydroxide. The acid breaks down the protein into amino acids, their building blocks. At the end of the process, one of the remaining amino acids is glutamic acid, Truck Covermore commonly known in the form of its sodium salt, monosodium glutamate or MSG. HVP contains all the amino acids making up the protein, but glutamic acid is the effective flavour enhancer, said Keith Warriner,DVD Ripper, food science professor at the University of Guelph.#x “What used to be used is just pure glutamic acid, usually called monosodium glutamate, because that’s what gives products that sort of meaty flavour. “But it’s a bit expensive to produce. So what they do is take some high-protein foods, like soy for example, and they’ll hydrolyze it by boiling it in acid.” None of this sounds very appetizing to Daniel Raillant-Clark.#x The Montrealer figured out in his teenage yearsTruck Cover that consuming processed foods with MSG gave him debilitating migraines, knocking him off his feet for two days. ????????
Intel debuts six-core gaming chip The chip is based on Intel’s newest ۳۲-nanometer process technology. Generally, the smaller the manufacturing process, the better the performance. Most Intel processors still use “fatter” ۴۵-nanometer technology. Like other Core i series processors,Mold, Hydraulic Hoseit features Hyper-Threading, which can double the number of tasks–or threads–a processor can execute. The technology, which is not offered on prior-generation Core ۲ chips, #xallows a six-core processor can handle ۱۲ threads. Intel also introduced GPA (graphics performance analyzer) v۳.۰, which helps PC game developers analyze and optimize game performance. The updated development platform supports multicore optimizations and includes support for DirectX ۱۰.۱ and ۶۴-bit game executables, Intel said. Intel also recently rolled out Core i۳, i۵, and i۷ processors for laptops, which can take advantage of GPA v۳.۰. Journalist Uses Rum To Expose Airport Security Loophole Alberto Stegeman #xand two colleagues carried six Bacardi rum bottles filled with water aboard flights from Amsterdam to London and then on to Dulles International Airport. The ruse was pretty straightforward, too. They bought the one-liter bottles at the a duty free shop in Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport a week before their flight. Then they returned home, samurai swords, emptied the bottles and filled them with water. With the bottles filled with water, the three returned to the duty free shop on the day of their flight and paid for the bottles again as if they had just picked them off the shelf. The cashier sealed the bottles and marked them with their ticket and flight information. The three passengers then had no trouble carrying the bottles aboard the aircraft. Stegeman explained the ruse in a news program that aired on Dutch television. It comes on the heels of a BBC report energy saving lampthat showed the so-called “underwear bomber” wouldn’t have brought down Northwest Flight ۲۵۳ on Christmas Day if he had succeeded in detonating the bomb in his pants. Stegeman says the bottles were not checked. Stegeman’s report #xhas promptedenergy saving lampDutch officials to add extra security checks at duty free shops and stop the sale of liquids at some stores. ????????
Obama’s plans for NASA changes met with harsh criticism “It’s bad for the country,” Schmitt said. “This administration really does not believe in American exceptionalism.” Schmitt’s harsh words are part of a furious blowback to the administration’s new strategy for NASA. The administration has decided to kill NASA’s Constellation program, crafted during the Bush administration with an ambitious goal of putting astronauts back on the moon by ۲۰۲۰. Obama’s ۲۰۱۱ budget request would nix Constellation’s rocket and crew capsule, funnel billions of dollars to new spaceflight technologies, and outsource to commercial firms the task of ferrying astronauts to low-Earth orbit. The new strategy, however, has been met with outrage Hydraulic power unitsfrom many in the aerospace community. The entire congressional delegation from Florida, Democrats and Republicans alike, has sent a letter of protest to the president. Doubters fill op-ed pages and space blogs. Web-Connected TV: A Distant Dream for App Makers By the end of ۲۰۱۰, Americans will own more than two million Web-connected TVs, which let users access online services such as and Pandora with the same remote control they use to switch channels. Yet while developers have managed to create a wide range of apps for mobile phones, they’re daunted by the prospect of building software tools for TVs. There’s no easy way to create an app that can run on the wide range of sets, says Forrester Research (FORR) analyst James McQuivey. “Nobody wants to get in the business of developing separate widgets for Samsung (۰۰۵۹۳۰:KS), LG (۰۶۶۵۷۰:KS), Vizio, and Sony (SNE),” he says. In addition to all those TVs, there’s Hydraulic power packa growing range of set-top boxes, each with its own software. There’s Roku and its Channel Store,Compact fluorescent lamp, which bundles movie-streaming services from Netflix (NFLX) and others with handy tools, like a Facebook photo viewer. Vudu, recently acquired by Wal-Mart (WMT), plans an Apps platform for watching video podcasts such as Diggnation. This summer, the Boxee Box by D-Link (۲۳۳۲:TT) will bid to become the first hardware of its kind to let developers charge for programs through the TV. To companies such as Internet music provider Pandora, each new outlet for TV applications presents a further opportunity to reach a fresh audience. The Oakland (Calif.)#x-based company makes its free program available on almost every TV set and box on the market and says its TV business currently adds up to about ۵۰۰,۰۰۰ users. “The foundation is there for those numbers to start growingHydraulic power pack exponentially,” says Tim Westergren, Pandora’s founder and chief strategy officer. ????????

Brazil slaps trade sanctions on US over cotton dispute The World Trade Organization (WTO) #xapproved the sanctions in a rare move. Brazil published a list of ۱۰۰ US goods that would be subject to import tariffs in ۳۰ days, unless the two governments reached a last-minute accord. It said it regretted the sanctions,Grow lights, but that eight years of litigation had failed to produce a result. Cotton and cotton products would be charged ۱۰۰% import tariff, the highest on the list.
